Zafar Maan
Zaf is a surgical consultant with 15 years’ experience working in private practice. Having started out as a sole trader and latterly becoming part of a group practice, he brings first-hand insight into the realities of building and sustaining private practice in early consultancy.
In the NHS he has led delivery of an integrated clinical service across two sites, combining clinical excellence with effective governance and operational oversight. Alongside clinical work, Zaf is an experienced educator and leader. He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Education and has designed and delivered education and leadership programmes at Master’s Level.
Having built a thriving private practice, Zaf brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help you do the same.
Michael Blackhurst
Michael brings over 30 years of leadership experience across medical, clinical, and complex organisational environments. He has led and supported multidisciplinary teams, advised and built businesses, and worked closely with surgeons, specialists, and CEOs navigating high-stakes professional transitions.
Through his coaching and advisory work, Michael focuses on the human side of performance—recognising that tools, systems, and strategy only create impact when the people using them are aligned, capable, and supported. His contribution to the program helps specialists translate capability into sustainable, high-quality private practice.
Rachel Maan
Rachel has a background in healthcare and business management across both the NHS and private sectors. With over 15 years’ experience supporting the management of a private practice, she has expertise in the practical setup and day-to-day running, including financial and operational aspects, compliance and efficiency improvement.
She holds a Degree in Business Management and an Master’s in Healthcare Management and has established and run her own businesses, meaning Rachel brings valuable academic and real-world insight into the challenges faced by healthcare consultants moving into the private sector.
